FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS &

COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT HYPNOSIS

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind, whereby one's critical consciousness is relaxed, allowing the individual to focus deeper within themselves in the subconscious mind.  It is here that our memories are stored and our beliefs are formed.  Hypnotherapy is very effective, though not a quick fix.  Hypnotherapy serves as a 'guided tour' into oneself, to identify and change limiting beliefs that impact behavior...a true change from within.

Will you make me cluck like a chicken or do silly things?

Hypnosis is not something that is done TO anyone, but rather a natural relaxed state people allow themselves to be in.  People open themselves to suggestion to the point they are comfortable.  While some may be comfortable doing something silly, others would not be...so it is the person being hypnotized who is in control.  My hypnotherapy sessions, however, are never for entertainment value and are strictly confidential, focused on what the client wishes to explore for their own insight and healing.

What if I can't be hypnotized?

Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxation.  If you have ever driven a car and gotten so lost in thought you don't remember the drive...you have been hypnotized.  Hypnosis is not something done to you, but something you allow yourself to do.  Anyone can be hypnotized, if they allow themselves to let go.

Will I remember what happens in the session?

Because the client is in full control of the hypnosis process, they will remember everything they choose to remember.  While suggestions could be made to not remember something, I, as a therapist with integrity, would both need to have a solid therapeutic purpose for offering that suggestion AND would need the client to have the willingness to follow the suggestion to not remember a detail.  Most often, clients are surprised at their level of awareness in hypnosis and how clearly they remember the session in great detail.

I don't want to lose control of myself...

Hypnosis is a natural state of being.  Unlike how Hollywood portrays it, in hypnosis you are not unconscious or "zombie" like...but in a very relaxed state of consciousness.  Clients have awareness and can bring themselves out of hypnosis at any point they do not feel comfortable.

What if I get stuck in hypnosis?

Hypnosis in simply a deeply relaxed state of mind that one allows themselves to enter.  While at times people may be a bit groggy when coming out of hypnosis, similar to arising from a deep sleep, one does not get "stuck" in hypnosis.  The client is in control.

Will hypnosis work for me?

Hypnotherapy is not a magic wand and hypnosis is not something that is "done" to anyone.  Hypnosis is merely a natural state of relaxation, where one focuses their attention inward to identify limiting beliefs that may be having a negative impact on current behavior or creating challenges to meeting life goals.  Often this requires time, energy, and commitment.  There are many factors that can affect the success of hypnotherapy, the most critical being a true desire to change and to do the hard work.  Some issues can be traced back to early childhood experiences or traumas, so one must be open to dealing with difficult memories and emotions. Building trust and rapport with your hypnotherapist is also crucial to one's feeling at ease with the experience.  Those who are truly ready for change can and do experience life changing results and healing.
